Hollywood police carry out undercover drug bust
Police confirmed that the bust was an undercover operation in which guns were being traded for drugs. The bust occurred Wednesday at a Kwik Stop located at 5635 Hollywood Boulevard.
The drug bust was six months in the making, and the officers working the case were shocked with what they found inside. Along with regular items, the shop was selling illegal drugs. "Our undercover detectives purchased crack cocaine," said Hollywood Police Lt. Derik Alexander. Officers also found 370 pouches of synthetic marijuana inside.
During the drug bust, one customer showed up and confessed that he was trying to buy synthetic pot at the shop. "You can get your synthetic marijuana here, as they like to call it, or also known as spice," said the customer.
Police said that food stamp fraud was also being committed at the Kwik Stop. Police then arrested Ayman Sulaiman, the man who committed all of the crimes. Sulaiman's attorney said his client was working at the Kwik Stop when police swarmed in. Sulaiman's 13- and 14-year-old sons were also inside when police swarmed. "Guns drawn and everything and pointed at little kids," said Lawrence Hashish.
Alexander could not confirm whether or not guns were pointed at the teens, but he said that officers most likely went in with guns drawn because during the undercover investigation, undercover officers agreed to swap crack for guns with Sulaiman. Police had no clue how they would be greeted when they stormed in.
The business has been closed for the night, and police are hoping that it stays shut forever.
