Suspect in Broward carjackings, fatal shooting captured by FBI

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.-- The suspect behind multiple carjackings in Broward County and the shooting of two people that left a man dead and a woman hospitalized, Tuesday, has been captured by the FBI.

Officials arrested Gregory Moore, 35, after a roughly 30-hour search. He was captured at Mangonia Park TriRail station in West Palm Beach, the northernmost station in the county, at 3:15 p.m., Wednesday. Two accomplices who were with Moore at the time were arrested as well.

Moore's car, a white sport utility vehicle, was found in the station's parking lot. The rear windshield of the car was blown out by agents as a result of the take-down.

Alessandro Wright, who was at the station, witnessed the take-down. "All I heard was 'Pow, pow, pow, boom, boom, boom.' I turn and see some guy trying to run. I see a whole bunch of FBI agents and police running after him and people were jumping and diving to the floor, tear gas going everywhere."

Moore is accused of carjacking multiple vehicles throughout Broward County, shooting his ex-girlfriend, Danielle Roland, five times and fatally shooting a man she was with in her car in Hallandale Beach. That man died at Memorial Regional Hospital, where Danielle is still in critical condition after undergoing surgery. "Apparently [the victim] is her new friend," said Danielle's aunt, Margaret Roland, "so I guess [Moore] was jealous or upset because they had broken up."

Police believed Moore had help in attempting to get out of town, as officials' continuous search kept leaving them empty-handed.

Meanwhile, Danielle's family was in shock over the ordeal. "It's devastating," said Margaret. "You never think this will happen to you. You see this on TV and other families, but you never think it's going to happen to your family."

The FBI pleaded with the public Tuesday and earlier Wednesday to be on the lookout for Moore, as he was considered an armed and dangerous subject. "I can't stress how dangerous this person is," said FBI Special Agent Michael Leverock on Tuesday. "He has shown he is going to use violence, not just to the people, and sadly to a man and woman in Hallandale, but all the carjackers were held at gunpoint."

According to police, Moore is a career criminal and has been charged for various serious crimes including battery, burglary and domestic violence since 1997. He had just bonded out after a weapons-related arrest on Sunday.

With Moore now off the streets, Danielle's family is breathing a sigh of relief and focusing on her recovery. "I think she's kind of pulling through," said Margaret. "I haven't been there since last night, but she was conscious, and her older brother was there with her, and she was responding to him."

Moore was booked into the Broward County Jail Wednesday night. Accomplice Jonathan Marion, 23, was also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to carjacking and homicide. Both are expected to appear before a federal judge Thursday.
