Fraud arrest leads to narcotics bust in Northwest Miami-Dade

NORTHWEST MIAMI - A fraud investigation resulted in two arrests, following the discovery of stolen credit cards and narcotics at a Northwest Miami-Dade home.

Police conducted a search warrant Tuesday, at a home on the 8900 block of 180th Terr., after being tipped off by a local retailer. "We found over 50 counterfeit credit cards, some other identity theft information in the home and some cash, " said Miami-Dade Police Detective Marcos Rodriguez, but that's not all police found.

Investigators said they also found marijuana and thousands of dollars worth of cocaine. "They took other people's account information, they added themselves, they produced counterfeit ID's and one of them went shopping to local retailers here in South Florida," added Rodriguez.

The shopping sprees included iPads and iPhones, which caught the eye of one retailer, leading to the bust. "Basically they purchased eight Apple products valued at close to $8,000," said Rodriguez.

According to officials, the Economic Crime Bureau was contacted. Local and federal authorities were at the scene late into the night, Tuesday. "We did surveillance, we did our investigation and it revealed that the individual was purchasing these items with stolen credit cards," said Rodriguez.

The two men involved are brothers, said police. It is unclear what exact charges they will be facing.
